Process - Cut Off My Legs Give Me Wings
Date
2025
Process of sculpting work 'Cut Off My Legs Give Me Wings' for the exhibition 'Wishbone' in Sussex.
I first casted a torso, hands and arms in plaster which proved unsuccessful, and so I used clay to sculpt upon the broken pieces and exaggerate features as needed. A mixture of acrylic, watercolour paint and latex were used for colouration, with the aim to create something resembling eczema. On areas of hair growth, a punching needle proved useful in adding hair to dried latex which was then stuck onto the cast and painted as necessary. Final results of the sculpture in situ are available to view in my portfolio.
(plaster, clay, felt, raw wool, acrylic paint, watercolour paint, liquid latex, hair)
